Are You Eating Enough Vegetables a Day?

Some Signs You Are Not Eating Enough Vegetables:

  • Heart Problems
  • Digestion problems
  • You’re tired all the time
  • That nagging cold won’t go away
  • Your memory is foggy
  • You’re prone to muscle cramps
  • Constant fatigue

Five words or less

In India : About 71 per cent of the Indian population is eating less than half of the recommended serving of fruits and vegetables, a survey by a global nutrition company says. According to the survey by Herbalife Nutrition.

In America : Only nine percent of Americans are meeting their daily recommended consumption of vegetables, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This May, National Salad Month, make an extra effort to get your greens and meet the 2016 USDA Dietary Guidelines, which recommend that you consume between two and three cups of vegetables per day.

While this may sound like an impossible feat, it’s easy enough to accomplish with one simple dish, a salad. Not only can you make a dent in your daily consumption of vegetables, but you can also work your way towards achieving some of the other USDA Dietary Guidelines recommendations.

Vibrant Produce
This is a close-up of vegetables and fruits.

Here’s how:

  • Add meats such as steak or chicken and nuts such as pecans, walnuts and almonds to get a protein boost. It is recommended that an adult get anywhere from five to six-and-a-half ounces of lean and varied proteins per day.
  • Add fruits such as oranges or strawberries to try and hit the two cups of recommended fruit serving per day.
  • Crackers or quinoa can help you reach your allotment of three to four ounces of grains, half of which should be whole grains per day.
  • A little cheese can go a long way in helping you to meet the three recommended cups of dairy per day.
  • Salad dressings count towards the five to seven teaspoons of oils that you should be consuming each day and the oils in dressings, such as canola and soybean, help your body to absorb nutrients from vegetables.

Salads provide a healthy and easy avenue to gather several of the recommended nutrients. Here’s a simple recipe for Baby Greens with Roasted Pears, Feta and Walnuts to show you how easy it is to make a healthy and delicious salad.

All you need are pears, olive oil, baby greens, feta cheese, toasted walnuts, salt, pepper and your choice of salad dressings.

First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with wax paper and drizzle four pears, peeled, cored and cut into eighths, with one teaspoon of olive oil. Roast in the oven until the edges turn golden brown.

Once the pears have cooled, toss with eight cups of baby greens and your choice of salad dressings (champagne vinaigrette is one recommendation). Sprinkle half-a-cup of feta and half-a-cup of walnuts over the greens, and season with salt and pepper. Now you’re ready to start enjoying National Salad Month like a pro!

Automatic Lawn Sprinkler System – Guest Post #3

If you like the idea of a lush, green lawn and garden but dread the thought of dragging around a hose or sprinkler all summer, then you may want to consider installing an in-ground sprinkler system. While some systems can get complex and difficult to install, others are affordable do-it-yourself projects.

Not convinced this is a DIY project for you? According to Popular Mechanics, today’s sprinkler components are easier than ever to assemble. A product like the Rain Bird 32ETI Easy To Install Automatic Sprinkler System, for instance, retails for less than $199 (12764.95 rupees in india) at home improvement stores and Internet retailers.

It can be easily installed in one afternoon and doesn’t require tapping into underground water lines.

“This new system offers do-it-your selfers a more efficient, automatic way to achieve a beautiful, green lawn without having to drag out a hose or remember to move a sprinkler around,” says Ray Peppiatt, marketing manager of Rain Bird Consumer Products Division.

The system efficiently waters an area up to up to 3,000-square-feet, and conveniently sources water from any outdoor hose faucet.

As with any DIY project, the heavy lifting is often in the planning. To help, many manufacturers provide installation video tutorials and helpful tips on their websites. In the case of the Rain Bird 32ETI System, you get all of the supplies necessary for a simple five-step installation, including distribution tubing, fittings, an automatic timer and six professional grade, high-efficiency, pop-up rotary sprinklers.

“Now [homeowners] can spend the weekend enjoying their yard instead of worrying about watering it,” says Peppiatt.

Keep in mind, experts say proper watering is one of the most important things you can do to keep your lawn healthy. By doing so, it can raise the value of your home by as much as 14 percent.

Finally, to make sure the sprinkler system doesn’t overwhelm your water bill, be sure to find one that comes with an automatic timer. Simply program your desired watering schedule for any day of the week, as many times as you’d like your lawn and garden watered.

The Science of Water: What You Drink and Your Immune System Guest post #6

Most people know that their bodies are made up of a great deal of water, but may be surprised to learn that number is about 70 percent—and yet studies show we don’t drink enough to replenish what we need.

Other drinks to be sure, but water? Not even close.

Emphasizing this point is a study conducted by Dr. Alyson Goodman for the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention that suggests one in 10 Americans drinks no water every day.  Zero. She calls these results “mindboggling.”

“Water is vital for life,” says Goodman. “Many health risks decrease when you drink plain water.”

Goodman believes that the non-water drinkers are getting their water from coffee, sodas, food and other sources, which might theoretically be okay, except for the calories that are associated with those other liquids.

According to Dr. Theodore A. Baroody, in order for a body to function well, it must have water, and in order for it to function properly, it must continuously work to maintain a proper pH or chemical balance.

To this end, the benefits of drinking water can’t be measured (preventing dehydration chief among them), however, adding alkaline water to a diet already rich in nutrient dense foods can help maintain a body’s pH balance, as well as aid in avoiding cancer, weak bones, premature aging and fatigue.

“An unbalanced pH can force your body to borrow important minerals from your vital organs and bones in order to remove excess acid,” Baroody says.

Water such as Alkame Water not only helps regulate these important pH balances in the body, but can boost the immune system, improve cardio-respiratory function and enhance energy levels. It even fights oxidative stress and free radicals.

Unlike its tap and bottled counterparts, Alkame Water goes through a process called “micro-clustering,” in which the molecules that make up water are broken up into smaller “clusters,” allowing body cells to absorb the water much faster, and in turn hydrate you more efficiently.

“If someone were to ask me, ‘What is the one thing I can do to have better health?’ Then the answer would be simple: Start drinking alkaline, ionized water,” says Dr. Robert O. Young, PhD, author of the “The pH Miracle.”

Alkame Water, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pinacle Enterprise Inc. (OTCBB: PINS) (OTCQB: PINS). For more information on Alkame Water and its health benefits, visit www.alkamewater.com.

Medicine and Laser Technology – Guest post #7

If you are old enough, you may remember seeing science fiction comic books that used lasers to zap the enemy. It’s not unusual that ideas so noted and seemingly far-fetched become realities. We are more familiar with the military’s laser-guided missiles and LASIK than we are with low-level lasers in the form of healing light. But healing lasers are at our doorstep.

Our bodies are dependent on the health of our cells. In fact, studies show that only a 2 percent loss of cellular water can decrease our energy levels by as much as 20 percent. The health of our cells is dependent on energy. If they are exposed to excessive energy, they will be fatally damaged, and the body will die. On the other hand, if the cells receive insufficient energy, they will weaken and become sick or diseased.

Over the years, scientists and doctors have been fine-tuning low-level lasers to increase the body’s adenosine triphosphate (ATP) for cellular energy, resulting in exactly the right kind and amount of energy. What they have discovered is that lasers help in more ways than just boosting energy.

“What we have found is that low-level lasers stimulate the body to release pain-relieving endorphins, help the body heal damaged DNA and scar tissue and even help repolarize cell membranes for better nutrient absorption,” said Dr. Larry Lytle, author of the book “Universal Healer: Book I Osteoarthritis.” and developer of the QLaser.

Lytle’s QLaser was recently cleared by the FDA for over-the-counter sale and use in treating osteoarthritis in the hands. The Q1000 is a Class I laser device that has been classified by the FDA as a non-significant risk device as related to eye injuries, yet it helps the body release endorphins reduce inflammation, increase circulation, heal damaged cell membranes and boost cells’ energy levels, resulting in less pain and more healing. Keeping a personal laser, like the QLaser, at home can help patients address their osteoarthritis without turning to costly medical treatments.
